OCTOBER 14-16, 2011 ASJRA's ANNUAL FALL EVENT
The Association for the Study of Jewelry and Related Arts Fall
2011 Event will take place in Boston from Friday-Sunday, October 14-16.
We are offering a special three-day event limited to a finite group of attendees.
There are a limited number of spaces left.
The event will be held in Boston in conjunction with the exhibition, Gems,
Jewelry and Treasures: Past and Present to be curated by ASJRA co-director
and Rita J. Kaplan and Susan B. Kaplan Curator of Jewelry Yvonne Markowitz
at the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston. This will be the first exhibition in
the museum's new permanent Kaplan Jewelry Gallery.
The event will run through Friday morning until early afternoon on Sunday
and will include the following:
A
curator's tour of the exhibition with curator Yvonne Markowitz. A tour of
the jewelry in the museum's new American wing, including selections from
the
Daphne Farago Collection of studio jewelry. A visit to the jewelry archives
of the MFA with Yvonne.
A tour of the Christian Science Mother Church including
the famed Maparium and its pipe organ.
A tour of the historic Otis House,
the last surviving Colonial mansion on Beacon Hill and a lecture on the relationship
between the writer and playwright Mercy Otis Warren and Abigail Adams as
told
through related jewelry.
A lecture by award-winning gem carver Helen-Serras
Herman followed by a wine and cheese reception.
A visit to a private collection
of early 20th century art jewelry.
A tour of the 19th century Ayer Mansion,
decorated by L.C. Tiffany and not regularly open to the public.
Lunch on
Friday and Saturday and brunch on Sunday at upscale restaurants are included.
We will
organize group dinners
for those who wish to attend at well-known Boston restaurants.

This promises to be one of our most exciting events. Come see beautiful jewelry,
visit historic places in Boston, see the friends you have made at previous

AMERICAN JEWELRY TRAVEL TRIP TO BALTIMORE-November 4/5
We will meet in Baltimore to begin our weekend.
On Friday, November 4, 2011 we will spend the day at The Walters Art Museum
where we will have a curator's tour of the Treasury Room which houses jewelry
by
Rene Lalique and other fabulous treasures.
After a group luncheon we will have a curator's tour of the Asian Collection
that includes jades, ivories, mixed metalwork and some jewelry.
On Saturday, November 5 we will visit the Maryland Historical Society where
we will view a portion of the 900 pieces of jewelry in their collection as
well an important collection of miniatures by the famed Peale Family (known
for painting George and Martha Washington). We'll see items such as the ruby
tiara that belonged to Betsy Bonaparte, a Baltimore merchant's daughter who
married Napoleon Bonapartes brother.
During the weekend attendees will have an opportunity to visit the annual
Jewelry Fair at The Walters Art Museum with a select group of contemporary
studio jewelers exhibiting and related events.
We are still firming up the details for this trip which will be limited to

ADVANCE PLANNING 2012
AMERICAN JEWELRY TRAVEL TRIP TO MIAMI FEBRUARY 2-5, 2012
ASJRA has announced an American Jewelry Trip for February 2012 to
attend the Original Miami Antiques & Jewelry Show.
Our trip will run from February 2-5, the dates of this famed show, which
has more than one-third of the dealers specializing in jewelry...some of
the top dealers in the world appear at this show.
The trip will include all entry fees to the show and some special privileges.
ASJRA experts will speak to a number of dealers ahead of time to find out
the important pieces of historical interest they will be showing, and we
will spend time with them looking at these pieces and discussing them. You
will of course have time to do some browsing/shopping on your own.
The trip itinerary includes a walking tour of the historic Art Deco Miami
architecture, a guided tour of the fascinating Wolfsonian Museum of Propaganda
Arts, a visit to the extraordinary Coral Castle, a tour and cocktail party
hosted by the Miami Art Museum and a dinner hosted by US Antique Shows for
ASJRA members, lunches for three days, and possible other events to be announced.
US Antique Shows will work with us to get the best rates on quality hotel
rooms. Travel will be on your own.

ASJRA will be offering a trip to Los Angeles the last week in April 2012.
